Psoriatic arthritis is a chronic form of arthritis that, as its name suggests, occurs in people who also suffer from psoriasis. Approximately 2% of the UK population suffer from psoriasis and 10–20% of psoriasis sufferers develop some form of psoriatic arthritis.1 Arthritis can be defined as inflammation of the joints, and onset usually occurs between the ages of 30 and 50. However, as many as 12,000 children in the UK suffer from juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA).2 |

Skin disease has a significant impact on work. Approximately four million working days per year are lost in the UK because of skin disease. Fifty percent of industrial benefit claims are for dermatoses, and contact dermatitis represents 5% of skin clinic attendances. Work activities can be hazardous to normal skin and a disaster to diseased skin. |
